Freddie Mercury (1946-1991) was a British rock singer, best known as the flamboyant frontman of the group Queen. He died from AIDS in 1991.

Portrayal on Spitting Image[]

Mercury was featured a lot on Spitting Image, but always as an extra and never under the name "Freddie Mercury". As a small joke he can be seen in the audience during the Queen parody: "We're the Royal Family", which features Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family spoofing "We Are the Champions" by Queen.

However, his puppet is often confused with Lord Lucan (just like in the image here). The show's creators used Lord Lucan (a famous nobleman who mysteriously disappeared) as an extra to imply that he was still hiding somewhere. The real Freddie Mercury puppet has more pronounced front teeth and is much thinner.
